Odoo Customization

Custom Odoo That Survives the Next Version

Odoo ships a new version every year. Work built the quick way has to be rebuilt every time, which is why so many businesses sit stranded on an old release. We build yours as a proper module, inheriting from standard models rather than editing them.

50+ ERP and software projects. Zero failed projects since 2021.

Why It Matters

The yearly release is what punishes bad customization

Odoo moves fast. How your changes were written decides whether that is routine maintenance or a rebuild.

Built as a Module

Inherit from standard models, never edit them

Everything we build goes into one versioned module that extends the standard models through inheritance. When a new Odoo version lands, the upgrade is a matter of testing and adjusting your module, not reconstructing work from scratch, and it is always obvious which behaviour is yours.

  • A single custom module, versioned in your repository.
  • Inheritance and extension instead of core edits.
  • Every release rehearsed on staging first.

The Cheapest Route First

Configuration, an existing app, then code

Plenty of requests turn out to be a setting, an automated action or a maintained app somebody has already published. We check those before quoting development, and we review any third-party module's code and version support first, because an abandoned app becomes your problem at the next upgrade.

  • Standard configuration and automated actions checked first.
  • Third-party modules reviewed before they are recommended.
  • Each request scoped with a fixed price and date.

How We Work

The practices behind every change

๐Ÿ“

One custom module

All your changes in a single versioned module, so standard and custom never blur together.

๐Ÿ›ก

Inheritance only

We extend standard models rather than editing them, which is what keeps upgrades routine.

๐Ÿงช

Staging first

Nothing reaches production until it has run on a copy of your live database.

๐Ÿ“

Documented decisions

Each change records what it does and why, so the next developer is not guessing.

โ†ฉ

Rollback ready

A backup before every release and a tested route back if something is wrong.

๐Ÿ”‘

Your repository

The module lives in a repository you own, so you are never tied to one vendor.

FAQ

Odoo customization questions

What can be customized in Odoo?
Custom fields and new models, form, list and kanban views, automated and server actions, approval rules, QWeb report layouts, dashboards, access rights and record rules, and complete custom modules written in Python and XML on the Odoo framework.
Will customization break our annual Odoo upgrade?
Not when it is built as a proper module. We keep everything in a versioned custom module that inherits from standard models rather than editing them, so an upgrade means testing and adjusting your module against the new release instead of rebuilding it. Changes made directly to core files are what make upgrades painful.
Should we use Odoo Studio or a custom module?
Studio is good for straightforward field and view changes, and it is quick, but it is Enterprise only and its output is harder to review, version and migrate. We use Studio where the change is simple and a proper module once there is business logic involved, and we tell you which route we are taking and why.
Can you use apps from the Odoo App Store instead of building?
Often, and it is usually cheaper. We check whether a maintained third-party module already covers the requirement, then review its code quality and version support before recommending it. A badly maintained app becomes your problem at the next upgrade, so we do look before suggesting one.
How much does Odoo customization cost?
It depends on the requirement. A custom field or a report layout is small. A module with its own models, workflow and integrations is a project. We scope each request and give a fixed price and date before any development starts.
Do we own the custom module?
Yes. The module sits in your repository and on your database, with documentation. You can maintain it in-house or hand it to another partner at any time.

What We Can Change Inside Odoo

Four routes to a change, from a configuration setting to a module of your own. Here is what each covers, how we keep it upgrade-safe, and what you receive at the end.

Core Features

From a form field to a module of your own

Fields, Views and Workflows

The layer most requests are actually solved at

Extra fields on standard documents, computed and related fields, form and list views arranged per role, kanban and pivot layouts, plus approval chains with value limits and activity assignment. Much of this needs no development at all, and what does stays small.

  • Custom fields, views and layouts per role.
  • Approval chains with limits and routing.
  • Access rights and record rules by company and team.

Automation and Reports

Logic and output shaped to your business rules

Automated actions that fire on create, write or confirm, server actions for validation and calculation, scheduled jobs that run overnight, and QWeb report layouts for quotations, invoices and delivery slips carrying your branding and the statutory fields you are required to print.

  • Validation, calculation and scheduled automation.
  • Pivot and dashboard views for management numbers.
  • QWeb layouts in your own design.

Custom Modules

An app of your own, beside standard Odoo

When the requirement is really an app, we build it as an Odoo module in Python and XML with its own models, views, security rules and reports. It installs alongside the standard apps, inherits rather than edits, lives in your repository, and is upgraded or removed independently.

  • New models, views, menus and dashboards.
  • Inheritance and extension, never core edits.
  • Versioned in your repository with documentation.
